Tell us about yourself, Shanen!

I am a Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Room and Adjunct Faculty teaching Nurse Practitioner students. I recently started a business as a Wellness Advocate focusing on disease prevention. My favorite job is being mom to an amazing 9 year old boy, whom I home school. I am also the Cub Master for one of the local Cub Scout groups.

How did you come to understand your inner beauty?

As I’ve aged, I’ve realized more and more that beauty comes from the inside, not just what people see on the outside. Children don’t love people because they are beautiful, they love how someone makes them feel. My son will snuggle with me or will randomly hug me no matter how I am dressed or how I look, because he loves me and he feels safe. When a friend is in need, they don’t care what you look like on the outside, they care about how you make them feel. Beauty comes from within and how you feel about yourself.

Women are bombarded with beautiful pictures of what we “should” look like and no one can fit the standards of magazines/media. Women need to understand that the definition of beauty comes from within and how you treat others. God made each of us to be unique and that alone is beautiful. There is no difference between a stay-at-home mom and a professional with a career and no children, we are all beautiful in our own unique ways.

 

 

What was your experience with the photo shoot?

I was honored to be selected. The photo-shoot was relaxing. It was nice to take time away from daily life for a few hours.
