Bold Beautiful Perfect: Tonya

Bold Beautiful Perfect

“We are all beautiful in our own way, due to circumstances that have happened in our lives that we felt we had no control over, but we did it. We pulled through.”  – Tonya

Tell us a little about yourself, Tonya!

I am Tonya Brooks, a 42-year-old mother of three beautiful children. My daughter is 24, my son is 21, and my last son 5 months old. I was married for 23 years and got divorced in 2018 due to his infidelities. I re-connected with my middle school first boyfriend 30 years later and after my divorce, and we now have a son together. We plan on getting married in the future.

How did you come to understand your inner beauty?

I have always known my inner beauty due to my outside beauty. I was always beautiful and told my whole life. However, some people very close to me were not as lucky, and that is when I would always let them know how beautiful they were. I know there are a lot of insecure women in this world at times. I have also been insecure, especially after birthing children ruined my once-beautiful body. After years of being insecure about my body after having kids, I discovered my inner beauty. I am beautiful and have a beautiful body even after bearing children, because being a mommy is the most beautiful gift in this world.

This project is all about inspiring women to see their beauty. What parts of your story can you share to help women to understand their own beauty?

We are all beautiful in our own way, due to circumstances that have happened in our lives that we felt we had no control over, but we did it. We pulled through, even on our darkest days, and we made it. We can now look back and appreciate things that have happened in our lives. My story is not over yet- I’m still writing my story. One day, I will be able to look back on it and be happy, and also be proud of where my life is at. Be proud, be bold, be beautiful- we all are!

How was your experience with the photo shoot?

When I was selected for this campaign, I was super excited. My goal is to inspire as many women as I possibly can with my story. Being married for 23 years and then getting a divorce was devastating, but not as devastating as finding out about the infidelities. I was terrified to divorce due to financial reasons. I was a homemaker my whole marriage, with no education, no career, nothing. I am getting my education now at 43 years old. This is why I say my story is not done yet- it still continues.

The photo shoot was fantastic! I happen to get it done during this Covid-19 outbreak. During my shoot, I forgot all about Covid-19 and just enjoyed being pampered and isolated from the rest of the world just for a little bit. I had peace.
