“Being able to understand my worth in the Heavenly Father helped me to see my inner beauty.”  – Amy

Tell us about yourself, Amy!

I am a 43-year-old Mississippi native and for the last 12 years been married to a wonderful man. We do not have children, but have our hands full with our rabbits and cats. I am a blessed artist with creative reflections in fluid art and handmade jewelry.

How did you come to understand your inner beauty?

It’s sad to say, but I only came to discover my true beauty this year. Throughout junior high and high school, I was bullied with name-calling and picked on for my appearance. Needless to say, I hated the reflection that stared back in the mirror. After grade school, people would tell me that I was beautiful or pretty, but never believed them. I didn’t see it or much less felt beautiful in my skin.

For several years, I have been on a personal journey for growth and finding my purpose. It wasn’t until last year that God was finally able to reach me through a valuable lesson that even though outcomes in life are not what I want, His plans are always better than I could ever imagine. The biggest breakthrough came in May when He told me I am exactly where I am supposed to be and that I am worthy and deserving of His blessings. He also showed me that I do make a difference in this world. Being able to understand my worth in the Heavenly Father helped me to see my inner beauty.

What parts of your story can you share to help women to understand their own beauty?

Through the years of low self-confidence and esteem, you can imagine there was a large amount of negative self-talk. I met with a counselor in June to start pushing past these long-standing lies that I believed. This is the exercise that I would encourage every woman to do.

Close your eyes and picture a father looking at two of his children. He sees one bullying the other saying how ugly they are, how stupid they were, and for always messing things up. He sees the other just standing there crying with their head down taking it and believing every word they told. Now the Father loves both of his children, but He would never tell either of them that they were ugly, stupid, or a mess up in life. He helped to create them and bring them into this life.

After playing out this gut-wrenching vision from the Heavenly Father’s eyes, my chains were broken! For the first time in my 43 years, I see that I am beautifully made in His image and would never call me ugly.

Remember, you are wonderfully made in the image of our Heavenly Father. He sees you for who you are, He calls you beautiful daughter in whom He is well pleased, and treasures you as a rare jewel.

Be willing to step out of your comfort zone, because it is during those moments that you find your strength and the answers you seek. Always be brave, be bold, and know that you are Perfectly Beautiful in the Father’s eyes.

What was your experience with the photo shoot?

My dream growing up was to be a supermodel like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks, or Niki Taylor. They were my favorites and inspiration. In my Junior year the John Casablanca school in New Orleans called to discuss going through their program, but my parents could not afford to send me. It was heartbreaking, but even more shattering was that my boyfriend did not support my dream. He always asked who I was trying to impress. It was never about impressing anyone as it was fulfilling my dream and feeling beautiful in my skin after years of being bullied and picked on.

Brandi is an amazing photographer and woman, so I wasn’t expecting to get a call. During the shoot, she mentioned that I had a model figure, which lead me to share my dream growing up. We seemed to connect and she helped me to feel loved, respected, and beautiful. Being chosen allowed me to fulfill a dream and be a fashion model, if only for a moment. Thank you, Brandi, for allowing me to have a dream come true experience!

I was introduced to Kasper, who was in charge of my beauty pamper session for hair and makeup. We really connected on an artist level and he made me feel and look beautiful for the day.
