Tell us about yourself, April!

I’m a born and raised Mississippi girl. I’m the middle of 3 and have a large circle of amazing family and friends. My hometown is Ocean Springs but my husband, stepchildren, my fur baby, and I recently moved to Gulfport. I’ve been a dental hygienist for the past 18 years. I’m active in local community theater and Mardi Gras krewes. I host a weekly trivia night. I pretty much know everyone.

 

 

How did you come to understand your beauty?

I’ve been loved and cared for, but my life has been rather difficult emotionally. Overcoming many obstacles and fighting to become who I am today helped me to see that my physical insecurities are somewhat silly. Having a beautiful heart and spirit is what matters. And if you are authentically yourself and are happy with yourself on the inside, it will radiate out of you. I’ve embraced my flaws and flipped my perspective to see them as unique qualities that make me who I am.

This project is all about inspiring women to see their beauty. What parts of your story can you share to help women to understand their own beauty?

Focus less on the eye wrinkles, more on the laughter. Focus less on your weight, more on how what your body can do and has done. Focus less on the grey hair, more on the wisdom that comes with it. Focus less on the tragedy, more on the strength you gained from surviving it. Look for the blessing in disguise in everything.

 

 

What did the shoot mean to you? What did it feel like to be selected?

I felt seen and appreciated. I joke about my middle child status I can’t outgrow but I often feel overlooked or stuck in the middle. This shoot made me the star. Brandi and Kasper made me feel like my qualities should be celebrated and showcased, not watered down.

Kasper is a wizard! He used straight up magic to make me look and feel beautiful. Brandi is a true artist and knew exactly what to do to make me look my best in the photos. We had a blast taking them and playing with fun looks.

 

 

What did the shoot mean to you? What did it feel like to be selected?

I’ve always been confident in my intelligence, my skills, and my personality. Like many people, I’ve struggled with physical confidence. This shoot combined my features with my personality to make me the most authentically beautiful I’ve felt, probably ever. I cannot recommend this experience enough!
