Tell us about yourself, Loretta!
I’m a 55 years young great-grandma of 3 little girls and grandma of 8 beautiful grands! They are my world and what makes me get up every morning. Even if I can’t be with them all the time, they are always in my heart!
How did you come to understand your beauty?
When I was young, I wasn’t one of the prettiest girls in school – and even back then they were mean! I had my first child at 14 and my third by 21. Things was good then! I felt beautiful, but then things started changing. I got depressed and headed down some very ugly paths, giving in to drugs and alcohol. About 3 years later on Christmas Eve, I was depressed to the point of not wanting to live anymore. I realized that wasn’t me, so I said a prayer and decided to make a change. From that night on, I sobered up. I walked away from drugs and never looked back. I’ve been clean for 21 years, without rehab or help from anyone.
After a rough life of constantly being labeled as “the one who got pregnant so young,” I’m happier than I have ever been. I found a wonderful man that’s been with me since I started my new life. He is my rock. My children are grown and have babies of their own. Don’t let people make you feel like they’re better than you. You are living your own story.
What advice do you have for women to help them understand their own beauty?
Never let someone tell you or make you feel that you’re not beautiful! Beauty comes from within. I’m not perfect, but I’m beautiful in my own way! Never give up on yourself. Be beautiful, ladies; no matter what, you’re beautiful inside and out!
What did the shoot mean to you? What did it feel like to be selected?
Being select for the Bold Beautiful Perfect project felt great – like I really am beautiful! And maybe if I could help one person from my story it would be amazing!
The photo shoot was amazing; I had never had professional photos taken before. I am so glad that I did it!
