Bold Beautiful Perfect: Rebecca

“The sadness turned to joy; the hurt turned to love; the meanness attitude turned to confidence. I became confident in who I was in Christ. The more I learned about Christ the more I learned about myself. I began to see myself as God sees me.” – Rebecca

Tell us about yourself, Rebecca.

I’m Rebecca and I am 53 year old! I met my husband when I was 44 and we got married the next year. I am the baby of eight children. I lost both of my parents to cancer at a young age. I love God and I’m trying really hard to love all people.

How did you come to understand your inner beauty?

Short answer: God.

Long answer: Every male figure in my childhood was perverted. My father was an alcoholic who raped one of my sisters. I had grandfathers who molested some of my cousins. I learned at a young age to hide. I would be mean and tom-boyish so as to not draw attention to myself and they would leave me alone. I got saved when I was 30 and God began to chip away at that wall I had built. Through lots of tears and heartache, I finally came to understand that God created me to be a woman. The sadness turned to joy; the hurt turned to love; the meanness attitude turned to confidence. I became confident in who I was in Christ. The more I learned about Christ the more I learned about myself. I began to see myself as God sees me.

I’ve shared my story in small groups, but I feel that God wants others to hear my story to be encouraged that you can overcome as well. I’m looking forward to what God has in store!

What parts of your story can you share to help women to understand their own beauty?

I came to realize that my self esteem issues were rooted in my childhood. I had to go back and repair that little girl before I could see myself as a healed woman. Forgiveness is key! Once you learn to love yourself as God made you, you can begin to see the beauty in His creation.

Tell us about your experience with the photo shoot.

I was a little apprehensive about the photo shoot. I almost felt like I was being conceited! Once I arrived, however, all the apprehension went away. Kasper started on my makeup, I got to dress up and Brandi guided me through the photo shoot. She made be feel like I was a princess. It was an incredibly positive experience for me.
