2020 Bold Beautiful Perfect: Jennifer

“I have been knocked to my knees too many times to count. Inner beauty can come from looking in the mirror and saying, ‘Okay, okay I’m laughing!'”

Tell us about yourself, Jennifer!

I am 56 years old, and I’ve been a flight attendant for Delta Airlines since I was 22. I intend on dying on a beverage cart rather than retiring, mainly because my family is way too spoiled over the goodies I bring back from Europe every weekend! I have PTSD from raising 3 children, but know that I was born to be a Mimi (still waiting patiently). I used to run track, play tennis, basketball, volleyball, and cheerlead. Now I follow instruction at the gym 3 days a week. During the sequestering of 2020, I gained 20 pounds (the recipes of Southern Living and Ina Garten will never let you down!). My people tell me that I am an artist. I can do a lot of things sufficiently but nothing really well… but I love to try and that is rewarding! I have had 2 decades of difficulties, one after another. I have cried rivers but somewhere along the line, I figured out that it could always be a lot worse. Most importantly, I learned how to laugh.

How did you come to understand your inner beauty?

I read a quote from the French philosopher, Voltaire, an eternity ago which struck me. “God is a comedian playing to an audience who is afraid to laugh.” Well, I have been knocked to my knees too many times to count. Inner beauty can come from looking in the mirror and saying, “Okay, okay I’m laughing!”

My job as a flight attendant is to show confidence, authority, and hospitality on the aircraft. My offering is to always project your inner genuineness. Throw out a big smile and try to get a laugh.

Tell us about your experience with the photo shoot.

I was shocked to be chosen! I was both intrigued with the process and flustered with the attention. I still have not come down from the experience!
