Tell us about yourself, Alisa!

My name is Alisa Crowe Rankin and I’m soon-to-be 65 years old.

My new and improved life began at the age of 52 when my husband of 33 years asked for a divorce. I was shocked and taken aback when he said, “I love you, but I’m not in love with you.” I was crushed. The “divorce year” was the most emotional, stressful, and challenging time of my life. What do I do? I’ve been with him since high school and married at 18. My life with him was all I knew.

So, I picked myself up and went into self-survival mode. I had to learn to do everything on my own. My mantra was “I can do this.”

In the midst of this turmoil, I was asked to film an episode of the HGTV network’s House Hunters. The name of the episode is “Woman married 33 1/2 years goes through painful divorce and moves to Gulport, Mississippi.” Well, that sums it up perfectly. Filming this show was just what I needed. I had a small fan club of women reaching out to me for help and advice. I was truly humbled by that. I was surrounded by a wonderful and supportive film crew and the best producer, Laura Patterson.

I survived! I learned to be strong! I’m blessed with wonderful, supportive family and friends.

Believe in yourself ladies! Live every moment of everyday to the fullest! Don’t let anyone bring you down or hurt you!

 

How did you come to understand your inner beauty?

This life experience had me looking deep within myself. I realized that I have that inner beauty. I’ve always had it. Now I can work on the whole package!

Believe in yourself! Drop the negativity in your life, including negative people. Look in your mirror and validate to yourself everyday all the good things within you and that you are a beautiful and loving woman.

 

 

Tell us about your experience with the photo shoot.

I have to admit that I went into the photoshoot with a bit of trepidation. I wasn’t used to being the center of attention, but Brandi was so warm and comforting that I relaxed pretty quickly. Being selected was a huge affirming event in my life. Being selected for this project said to me, “You made it, girl!” Bring it on!
