Meet Terri!
I’m 40 years old, originally from Naples, Florida and I own my own drywall business.
Terri, how did you come to understand your inner beauty?
When I was a little girl, I started doing pageants. All of my friends had signed up and I thought it would be fun. However, shortly after arriving on the night of the big event, some of the girls started giving me funny looks. Right before I was set to go on stage, I was ambushed in a manner so vulgar no young lady should ever have to suffer through. I went to my mother in tears. It was a terrible night.
The next morning, my mom and a few of her lady friends kept me home from school to have a conversation. We went to a salon, and while we got makeovers, they explained why I was called those horrible names. Jealousy is a powerful emotion and it can make people act in terrible ways. I still didn’t understand. My friend Michelle Vincent was the one to help me out. She told me it was because I was so beautiful already. Adding makeup and a fancy dress made me shine even brighter. They wanted to dull that shine hoping others wouldn’t see it. That’s why they attacked.
I went to school the next day and walked right up to the leader of that group and told her exactly what I thought. “You are so beautiful,” I said, “You’re nice to others, you always share when someone is in need, and you have the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen. I hope one day you will understand what that means, but until then, you will never stop me from SHINING.” Then I walked away.
What parts of your story can you share to help women to understand their own beauty?
No woman should ever doubt her beauty. It comes from within and can be seen whether we’re wearing high-heels or muddy sneakers. If you have a good heart and a kind soul, your true beauty will radiate from within. Not everyone will appreciate it, but don’t let them doubt yourself.
Tell us about your experience with the photo shoot.
I was very nervous when I got there but Brandi put me right at ease. She talks to you in a way that both helps you relax and makes you feel spectacularly gorgeous all at once. I had a fantastic time and would definitely do it all over again.
Anything else you would like to share?
Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission.” I would like to add something: “Just imagine how superior we could be if we, as women, supported one another. Wouldn’t that be beautiful!”
