Tell us about yourself, Yvette!
Hi! My name is Yvette Barr Vogel. In the last decade, I moved back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast after getting my undergraduate degree from The University of Southern Mississippi and my Master’s from the University of Texas at Austin. I was raised by my father who is retired from the Navy, and my mother who is retired from school teaching. They gave me a love for travel, learning, and community. In 2023, I married my husband, Dustin Vogel, who has been a great support to me in all areas of my life.
My career has been primarily in marketing and management for helping the needs of the community. Many of the people I meet through public transit, church, volunteering, and even walking around town help me to feel more beautiful, and I hope to make them feel more beautiful or handsome, too. There are so many ways we can come together as a community to enjoy life to its fullest.
How did you come to understand your inner beauty?
At a young age, I remember defining the only beauty that mattered as inner beauty. That is what I try to see in people and what I try to strengthen in myself. I think strengthening your soul, mind, and body all helps to increase your inner beauty. I am always trying to improve how I can help the world and show kindness and compassion.
What parts of your story can you share to help women to understand their own beauty?
My biggest encouragement to other women is to always be the best version of themselves. Be confident in being someone who is bettering the world and the lives of those around you. Life can be very hard at times, but if we believe in ourselves and how we can make it to tomorrow with dignity, strength, and grace while helping others along the way, it is a beautiful thing. Having a beautiful heart and purpose is the most beautiful thing you can have.
One thing I’m very passionate about is helping the visually impaired. The philanthropy for my sorority, Delta Gamma, was “Service for Sight.” To me, beauty isn’t looking in the mirror but really looking at the heart of people. Sometimes helping others can help brighten someone’s life so that they live a better life and help many others along the way, too.
Also, do not become discouraged if you cannot find answers right away for your medical journey, career, relationship, or anything else. Life tends to fall into place. Find the beauty in yourself, in others, and in life. Take everything one day at a time, and believe in yourself. Enjoy the journey!
Tell us about your experience with the photoshoot?
For years, I had seen Brandi Stage’s photography online. Many friends of mine had their photos taken by her. Being able to experience the photo shoot for myself was a dream come true!
During the session, I was made to feel very comfortable doing something I’m usually not comfortable with—which is having someone else take my photo. Brandi encouraged confidence, helped me pose without feeling awkward, and made me feel beautiful throughout. Brandi has such an optimistic energy and an artistic eye. She made me feel like I was showcasing myself in the best light possible (literally).
Not only that but the setup for the shoot was so personalized. It was considerate of me, my time, and my style. It was an awesome experience, and I’m very grateful for it.
