2025 40 Over 40 Series: Jennifer Oberfell
“I used to try and be a million places to please everyone and it just became overwhelming. Now I try not to stress and do what I can. In time you learn you don’t have to please everyone.“
Jennifer’s story:
After having 2 special needs children and spending my late 20’s and 30’s navigating and advocating for my children, I decided when I turned 40 I needed to do something for me. I joined a dance Krewe ,The Nola Show Girls and decide to do more things that made me happy. I like to walk, sit by the beach and catch my son in the band on a Friday night. I read Mel Robbin’s book, “Let Them” and started to take back my time and energy. I used to try and be a million places to please everyone and it just became overwhelming. Now I try not to stress and do what I can. In time you learn you don’t have to please everyone.
What are some of the rewarding parts of the current decade you are in? The challenges?
My kiddos are a little more independent so I have more time for me things. Menopause is hitting hard and the brain fog and hot flashes are driving me nuts.

What has been your favorite decade you have lived through and why?
My favorite was my 20’s the years of independence and exploration. Dating, finding what you like and who you want to be.

If given the opportunity, what would you do differently?
I would choose men more wisely and not be so risky with my decisions. I would have invested more when I was younger.

What was your top life lesson that you’ve never forgotten and have lived by?
You are not responsible for anyone’s reaction.
What has bought you the most joy in your life?
