2025 40 Over 40 Series: Becky Busby

Losing my son and my husband of 50 years changed my life in ways I never expected. Grief isn’t something you get over—you just learn how to carry it.

Becky’s story:

At one point, my husband and I joked that we were running the ‘Busby Bed & Breakfast,’ with a full
house that included both moms, our teenage son, a daughter-in-law, and our oldest grandson. It was
busy, a little chaotic, and full of love—just the way I like it.

What are some of the rewarding parts of the current decade you are in? The challenges?

This decade has also brought some of my greatest challenges. Losing my son and my husband of 50
years changed my life in ways I never expected. Grief isn’t something you get over—you just learn
how to carry it.

What has been your favorite decade you have lived through and why?

“I would say my favorite decade was when my husband and I were raising our family. It was a full and sometimes overwhelming season, but it was also filled with love, laughter, and a deep sense of purpose.

At the same time, I’ve come to appreciate that each decade—including the one I’m in now—has brought its own kind of growth. This season has taught me strength, faith, and how to keep moving forward even when life looks different than I imagined. There’s still beauty to be found, and I’m learning to embrace it more every day.” 💛

What was your top life lesson that you’ve never forgotten and have lived by?

I’ve also learned that life can change you in ways you never expect, but you can still keep going. You
may not be the same person after hard seasons—and that’s okay.

What has bought you the most joy in your life?

My greatest joy has always been my family—raising my children, loving my husband, and now being a
proud ‘BeBe’ to my six grandchildren—along with finding peace in simple moments and the everyday
blessings God provides.
