2025 40 Over 40 Series: Angela Henry

Life is short, if you want to do something do it, or at least work towards it.

Angela’s story:

I was diagnosed with high cholesterol when I was in my early 20’s and told that I would be on medication for the rest of my life. This caused me to go into a panic to get my health together. I started eating lower calorie foods, such as fruits and vegetables, and chicken and fish, as well as beans and lentils. I had small children and no access to a gym so I began going outside and running for an hour everyday. Thus began the running obsession! Now at age 45 I’ve run several full and half marathons, including the New York City Marathon, which is the largest marathon in the United States. I’ve also ran the 50K in the Marine Corps Marathon. Life is short, if you want to do something do it, or at least work towards it. I wrote 3 urban fiction novels and had them published under the name Candy Rayne and a poetry book under the name Sky Rose Divyne. Writing is another passion of mine, and I hope to get back to it soon.

What are some of the rewarding parts of the current decade you are in? The challenges?

This decade is rewarding because I feel like I have more wisdom than I did in earlier decades, but the challenge is dealing with the decisions that I made when I didn’t have said wisdom.

What has been your favorite decade you have lived through and why?

This current decade of my 40’s seems to be my favorite because I’m living for myself now and not being bothered as much by what others say or do.

If given the opportunity, what would you do differently?

I would structure my family planning better. I love my children, but I wasn’t thinking about the future when I had them. Life would have been much easier if I was married, with a stable job and home.

What was your top life lesson that you’ve never forgotten and have lived by?

You only get one body and you need to take care of it. It’s been a work in progress, but I definitely get better year by year.

What has bought you the most joy in your life?

Acting on my passions as they came to me gives me great joy. Writing, running, eating things that make my body feel good, stopping drinking alcohol several years ago. Looking back on life and realizing that I’ve accomplished so much is a great joy.

What was your experience like working with Brandi Stage Portraiture as a part of the 40 Over 40 Project?

Working with Brandi was great. She made the process easy and comfortable from start to finish. I wanted to bring some of my own clothes but wasn’t able to, and she helped me pick out some outfits that were gorgeous. My hair and makeup were amazing as well!
